“Alice Through The Looking Glass” 2016 Mother’s Day Bonbon Collection
So… I rarely need any prompting to create anything that relates to Alice in Wonderland. As soon as I found out that the movie “Alice Through the Looking Glass” would be released near Mother’s Day I knew that it was going to be the inspiration for this year’s Mother’s Day bonbon collection.
Lewis Carroll’s book Through the Looking Glass is based on a chess game in the same way Alice in Wonderland is based on a card game. Time is rolling backward in Through the Looking Glass (Thus the clock themed bonbon). Alice must make her way through the chessboard to be crowned a queen (Thus the crown bonbon).
Something unique to the movie is that time is actually a man. Everyone is searching for a gold sphere, which holds magical powers, to release the Hatter. Though this is a creation for the movie, it’s intriguing nonetheless (Thus the sparkling golden bonbon).
Other interesting ideas for the collection, of course Absolem is a butterfly now (Thus the beautiful blue butterfly bonbon) and of course we still have the singing roses from the Magical Garden in the golden afternoon (Thus the two shades of lovely fairy roses).
What about the flavors in this mother’s day collection? Well, there are perennial favorites like vanilla bean ganache with our house made rose petal pâte de fruit, tart passion fruit caramel and orange blossom infused milk chocolate ganache. There are also new favorites like Tiramisu and Bitter Orange (both in 72% dark chocolate) and El Tropical; toasted coconut infused white chocolate, sweetened toasted coconut and a tropical blend of passion fruit, pineapple and guava pâte de fruit.
I hope you enjoy these as much as I enjoyed creating them. Happy Mother’s Day to all of you mothers and to my own special mom, Fancy Nancy Gray!
